Why Being From La Costa Doesn't Suck

La Costa seems to get hated on by some people, but as someone who is from this lovely little sub-division of Carlsbad, I think it is time to fight back.

La Costa Friends, tell me if this scenario sounds familiar to you: You've just met a nice stranger and he asks you where you are from. When you then tell him that you grew up in La Costa, your new friend says, "Ohhhh La Costa," with a major eye roll and a lot of attitude.

I can't count the amount of times I've gotten that response and frankly, I'm sick of it. For a while I just tried to simplify and say I was from Carlsbad (since La Costa is technically a part of Cbad) but I'm over that. The truth is, La Costa is a wonderful place to grow up, and I think it is time we all defend our area a little more. So, the next time someone rolls their eyes at me, I am going to be ready with a response. Instead of just shrugging, I am going to share my list for why being from La Costa doesn't suck:

(Or perhaps an abridged version of it)

Plenty of Shopping- Holy heck, I could shop for days in La Costa. Even before the days of The Forum, there were always plenty of boutiques nearby. But now that I have access to , Lululemon and all within 20 feel of each other. Best of all, Urban Outfitters is coming in (supposedly in Summer) meaning La Costa will officially have eveything I need to quell my shopping thirst

Mexican Food - Pretty sure we have some of the best Mexican food in the county. First there are all the awesome hole-in-the-wall's, both in La Costa and Encinitas., including Juanitas and Ricos. And then there is La Costa staple, , where the skinny margaritas are to die. We've even got some healthy Mexican food at good ol' El Caribe. I have been going there since I was approx 7 years old and I absolutely love their veggie burrito.

Nice Freaking Homes - Please don't hate on us because we have nice homes in La Costa. Not every one is a mansion, but us LC peeps do take a lot of pride in our neighborhoods, and the results are some pretty great looking streets.

Close To The Best Beaches - Head down Leucadia or La Costa Ave and you are 10 short minutes from sun tanning bliss. As someone who currenlty lives in PB now, I can tell you how much I miss the quiet North County beaches. In fact, it is part of the reason I am back up in La Costa so often!

Great activities for Kiddos -  True, I don't have any babies of my own yet, but I still think this is a valid argument for The LC. My childhood was glorious. I spent my summers at tennis camp at the Y or as a Jr. Guard at Ponto and there were always plenty of wholesome events to keep me and my sister entertained.

Hikes and Trails - Often overlooked, this is one of my favorite parts of La Costa. Want to go out and burn some calories from all that Mexican Food you've been consuming? Well you have to go approx 10 feet to reach an awesome hiking or walking trail. I particularly like going for a run along batiquitos lagoon as it is super quiet and peaceful.

Awesome Schools - (Go Mavs) I may be 25, but I am still chock full of school pride and you know why? Because was a great place to go to highschool. Don't scoff. LCC was full of over-acheivers and athletic wonders and it pushed me to be a better student even during a time where I was much more worried about boys and fashion.

A Great Sense of Community - This part may seem corny, but it is legit. Everyone likes growing up somewhere where they feel like they know everyone around them. I love that La Costa is full of local business owners and families who have been there for over 30 years. (except for when I am trying to run errands in my sweats - then , not so much...)

In short, I think being from La Costa is kinda awesome and I am not going to let people keep hating on it. In fact, I just changed my hometown to La Costa on Facebook, so now you know I'm serious. So friends, who's with me? Is it time to give a little love to the LC?
