Cool and Sophisticated Summer Decorating Ideas

Warm weather brings the opportunity to grill outside, entertain friends with barbecues and relax around the pool.

If you really want to enjoy your outdoor living space while the weather is nice, then you should put some thought into decorating it. The furniture you choose is only the beginning. You also need a few splashes of color, some shade and some fun accessories.

Soaring Shade with Bold Colors
The sun beating down on your patio will ruin your outdoor activities. It makes everything too hot, and our guests will be anxious to return to air conditioned comfort when they start sweating. You can add shade to any area with umbrellas or wonderful shade sails. Versatile and beautiful, you can use the shade sails to cover a small portion of your deck or the entire area. Mix and match hues to add a bold splash of color to your patio even while ensuring the comfort of your guests.

Candles and Soft Lighting
Soft lighting isn’t just for romantic dinners. When it comes to your evening entertaining, you also want soft lighting on the patio. Small white lights wrapped around an arbor or decorative tree add a gentle light that will illuminate the space without being harsh or glaring. String lights underneath railings for a soft glow around the edge, and incorporate candles for a decorative element that will look amazing in the daytime and brighten the patio after the sun sets.

Wall Art in Metal and Stone
Special exterior wall art is available to dress up the sides of the house. A large clock featuring a thermometer and barometer is a fun and attractive choice. Wrought iron shapes will add warmth and appeal to the area. You can also add wind chimes and wooden decorations to make the patio more interesting.

Textiles and Colors
Whether you have sling seats that are easy to care or plump cushions that invite you to sit for several hours, it’s a good idea to add something more using textiles and coordinating colors. Throw pillows take a patio from attractive to amazing, and a few blankets tossed casually over the patio sofa will be ideal when you’re out in the cool fall evenings. Use placemats on the table instead of a full tablecloth, and consider adding an outdoor area rug to make the patio feel more like a living room.

A Touch of Greenery
You may be surrounded by green grass and lush landscaping, but it’s still a good idea to add something to the seating area. A vase of fresh cut flowers is elegant, or you can choose to add a pot of colorful petunias to the table. Fuschia is a fine idea for a shady patio, or you may want to keep things bright and cheerful with a basket of dahlias. A few potted plants or flowers helps merge the living area with the landscaping around you and is a beautiful touch to any patio.

The Gentle Lullaby of Moving Water
A fountain is calming and relaxing. Whether you add a large fountain to the corner of your patio or something small to the coffee table, you will love how a fountain makes the patio feel more sophisticated and welcoming. Consider solar fountains if you want to place it away from the house, or choose one that simply plugs in if it will go on a table near an outlet. Your guests will love the elegance, and you will find the running water to be wonderfully soothing.

There are countless ways to decorate your outdoor living space. You may be focusing right now on the furnishings, but the little accessories are what will really set the tone. Small touches like pillows, candles and the right lighting will make a massive difference in how your patio looks and feels throughout the summer season. Take your time with the decorating to create a luxurious space you will never grow tired of.
