Coyote Cavern Productions Celebrates 10th Anniversary!

Non-profit youth theatre company presented by the Calavera Hills Elementary and Middle Schools and Carlsbad Educational Foundation celebrates its 10th anniversary!

This spring marks the 10th anniversary of Coyote Cavern Productions, a non-profit youth theatre company presented by the Calavera Hills Elementary and Middle Schools and Carlsbad Educational Foundation.

In 2003, Katie Gardner founded Coyote Cavern Productions (CCP), as artistic director and producer. Centered at the Calavera Hills Schools in Carlsbad, CCP gives children the opportunity to experience the magic, high expectations, and hard work of professional theater. In 2006, the state of California named Ms. Gardner a "Hero in Education."

Incorporating students from 3rd through 8th grade, CCP teaches students acting, singing, and dancing, as well as creating sets, choosing wardrobes, handling props, and managing stage equipment. Students are required to go through Broadway-style auditions, three months of rehearsals, and four consecutive days of performances.

Participation has more than doubled since the program started in 2003, with 120 students now in each show. Having more students has meant higher quality productions and larger audiences, providing the children with a meaningful experience they will never forget.  Funded entirely through ticket sales, grants and donations, Coyote Cavern Productions remains free to the students of Calavera Hills Schools.

For spring 2013, CCP is staging the classic musical Guy and Dolls (March 21, 22, 23, and 24), and tickets can be purchased by calling 760.703.2379 or emailing kyms@me.com.
