Who Should Own The Panhandle Of Quarry Creek?

Who Should Own The Panhandle Of Quarry Creek?

Jett has loved this area since before he could even walk.  From wooly caterpillars, to a sticky monkey-flower, to the scat of a coyote-every day brought new wonders.

He can't imagine what this area will be like if McMillan builds 656 homes here.  But those of us who are a little older can.  We can imagine how the view of this valley that has been essentially unchanged for hundreds of years will be impacted.  We can imagine what it will be like sitting in traffic along College Blvd from the additional 5,500 car trips a day this project will bring.  We  can imagine how we will feel when we lose the heart of this valley, our sense of place, our connection to history, the wonder of discovery by the future children who will live here.  The City Council of Carlsbad holds the fate of the panhandle in their hands.  On Tues. March 26 they will decide who matters most- the developer or the people of this community.  Preserve Calavera has proposed a compromise-allow the developer to build more homes than the 293 currently allowed, but in exchange keep the 15 acres on the panhandle as open space-owned by the people of Carlsbad.  Who should own the panhandle?  We all should.
