An Open Letter To State Politicians

Dear Mr./Ms. Senator/Assembly Person

I’m certain this communication finds you well, enjoying your recent 5.3% pay raise, at the expense of Proposition 30 California public school funding, which is where you, your union buddies and your union-bought Governor claimed the tax dollars had to be allocated last November.  Please advise as to when State Controller John Chiang will be conducting his audit to ensure the funds have been properly allocated, as the per ballot initiative language. And please save you’re your bad breath by claiming the raise was not your doing, but in fact the blame goes to the “independent” California Citizens Compensation Commission that approved the increase.  All of you could easily refuse the pay hike, and let’s not forget that the Commission’s Chairman, Thomas Dalzell, was appointed by Governor Brown, so the Commission is hardly “independent.” Certainly the fact that both the Senate and Assembly now maintain super-majorities of Democrats provides all of you, regardless of party affiliation, a huge sense of comfort, knowing that additional compensation and benefit increases will be approved by your fellow legislative hacks anytime you decide to deceive the gullible California voter again with yet another “crisis”.  Never mind the fact that those fat pensions and healthcare benefits you have granted to your public employee union followers for decades are very unlikely to be collected in full.  Thanks to you and your aforementioned colleagues in fiscal malfeasance, some time within the next decade California will declare bankruptcy, and their exorbitant health and pension gifts will be cut by you and your successors!  You’ll have no choice.  You ethically and morally-bereft morons have borrowed and promised more money to state workers that can ever possibly be repaid, even with ever-increasing taxes upon citizens and business.  Want an example of what’s coming your way?  By chance, have you watched any television lately and witnessed the riots in Greece, Italy, and Spain being directed at your brethren over this very reality (heaven knows, with the number of paid Holidays you receive, I’m sure you must have stumbled upon a video or two on your time off)?  That is your future as well!  Think it won’t happen to you?  Think again!

And what of the future of your children and grandchildren?  Does the grim reality of a California that continues to lead the nation in unemployment, income/sales/business and discretionary tax rates, illegal immigration, welfare recipients, and high school drop-outs appeal to you? A state without any long-term investment spending vision and unable to financially manage itself?  Think the job prospects in this state will be promising for them?  Ironically, their best opportunities will probably be in call center and data management support…………..in India!  Are you proud of the role you have played in the “legacy” that you, your business special interest, and union allies have willed to the next generation of Californians?  I’ll leave the answer to that question to your conscience……..if you have one.
