Agua Hedionda Lagoon Wins $25,000

The award includes a $25,000 prize from SDG&E which the lagoon will use to provide 900 local third graders with hands-on science and history educations.

After a voting period, Agua Hedionda Lagoon edged out seven other non-profit organizations to win the Earth 8 Eco Ambassador People's Choice Award.

The award includes a $25,000 prize from SDG&E which the lagoon will use to provide 900 local third graders with hands-on science and history education at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center for the upcoming school year.

"We are excited to serve the schools in our Carlsbad and surrounding communities with the generous donation from SDG&E,'' AHLF Education Program Director Lauren Biggie said.

Other nonprofits that competed in the Eco Amabassadors contest were the Tree Frog Project, Bayside Community Center, Escondido Creek Conservancy, San Diego Archaeological Center, City Heights Community Devopment Co., Outdoor Outreach and Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek.
