Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Train in Carlsbad

Heard on the police scanner were reports of the victim's leg being "nearly amputated." The man was air lifted to the hospital.

Around 10 p.m. Monday, a man was struck and seriously injured by a train at Grand Avenue and State Street in Carlsbad. 

The pedestrian was found responsive by the Carlsbad Police Department at the railroad track crossing of Grand Avenue.

The adult male was flown to Scripps hospital in La Jolla with serious injuries including a "near amputation" of his leg, according to the police scanner.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department's Coaster/Railroad Enforcement Unit is investigating how it happened.
