Report Points to Heart Failure in Austin Bice's Death

Spanish authorities believe the 22-year-old from Carlsbad died of heart failure, which may be linked to drowning. An official cause is still pending.

A preliminary autopsy report conducted in Spain indicates that 22-year-old  died of heart failure.

Bice's body was found Tuesday in a river in Madrid's Manzanares River, near a nightclub where he was last seen Feb. 26.

The report did not specify whether Bice drowned but did indicate that "drowning can cause heart failure." An official cause of death will be announced once authorities get the results of forensic tests.

Carlsbad resident traveled to Spain to help with the search for his son. San Diego 6 reports: "Bice says his son was a good swimmer and that there were ladders along the walls of the river." Additionally, friends told Bice his son was not drunk.
