Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Recognized for Contributing $75k to Worthy Causes

The club is a recipient of a 2012-13 Rotary International (RI) Presidential Citation.

Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club, which contributed almost $75,000 and countless manhours to enhance the local community and took part in a variety of worldwide humanitarian efforts during the Rotary year just completed, is the recipient of a 2012-13 Rotary International (RI) Presidential Citation.

It is one of only 10 clubs out of 67 in Rotary District 5340—which includes San Diego and Imperial counties—to receive the award that recognizes Rotary clubs that are exceptional in their accomplishments that improve their communities and beyond and deliver effective service. Hi-Noon's student Interact Club at Carlsbad High School also received an RI Presidential Citation for its accomplishments in the Rotary year that ended June 30.

The Rotary motto is Service Above Self, conveying the humanitarian spirit of the organization’s more than 1.2 million members. Strong fellowship among Rotarians and meaningful community and international service projects characterize Rotary worldwide.

Before turning over the gavel to 2013-14 Carlsbad Hi-Noon President Lisa Rodman, outgoing president Yvonne Finocchiaro recognized the club’s Rotarian of the Year and Rookie of the Year, noting they embody the spirit of Rotary found throughout the almost 100-member Hi-Noon Rotary Club, as well as Rotary worldwide.

She recognized Eric Lodge as the 2012-13 Rotarian of the Year and Kay Ledson as the Rookie of the Year, an award given to a new member who has provided exemplary service through Rotary in her first year of service.

In her year-end report, Finocchiaro said the club put almost $75,000 into the community and worldwide projects, including $21,500 in scholarships to graduating seniors and returning military members who wanted to attend college. Also included in the overall tally is $13,000 for youth activities and projects, $25,000 in community projects and contributions, and almost $13,000 for international humanitarian efforts.
