Eat Kale not Carrots for Eye Health

Carlsbad optometrist Dr. Jeffrey Anshel's top list of foods to eat to support healthy eyes.

Having a difficult time reading your computer screen lately? Perhaps you are not getting enough kale or spinach in your diet. According to Dr. Jeffrey Anshel, you can stop chomping relentlessly on carrots and start adding more of these foods to your diet for eye health.

1- Kale (cooked)

2- Turnip greens (raw)

5- Collard greens (cooked)

6- Garden peas

7- Romaine lettuce

8- Zucchini

9- Brussels sprouts

10- Pistachio nuts

11- Broccoli

12- Corn

13- Carrots (yes, this is LAST on the list of good eye foods!!!!)

Also, yellow peppers, eggs and Goji Berries are great mostly for the Zeaxanthin content.

Dr. Jeffrey Anshel is a 1975 graduate from the Illinois College of Optometry.  He has written numerous articles and five books regarding nutritional influences on vision and computer vision concerns. Dr. Anshel is the principal of Corporate Vision Consulting, where he addresses the issues surrounding visual demands while working with computers. He also offers on-site consultations and seminars to corporations related to visual stress and productivity in the workplace. He lectures nationally to eyecare providers on nutrition topics. Dr. Anshel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and President of the Ocular Nutrition Society. He maintains a private practice in Carlsbad, CA and runs this website on eye health.
