Halloween Pet-Safety Advice

San Diego County Animal Services offers the following tips to make sure your furry friend has a happy Halloween.

Halloween can be a fun time for kids and adults but can sometimes be a challenge and frightening to our pets. Help protect your pets and others by keeping a few things in mind as you revel in the festivities.

Keep your pets indoors and away from the noise of ghosts and witches flying throughout your neighborhood.

Confine your pets to a room away from the front door or a window where a strange, tiny monster may suddenly appear.

Make sure your pets are wearing their collars and identification tags in case they attempt to run away from a frightening werewolf. If your pet has a microchip, make sure the information is updated. If not, contact Animal Services for dates and times of microchip clinics. The minimal cost of $20 will protect your pet!

Be careful of your pets around Halloween candy, especially chocolate or wrappers that can obstruct their intestines, or ornaments, especially lighted pumpkins or luminaries.

If your pet has run away from the frightful sounds and random appearances of strange beings coming to their home, please contact County Animal Services immediately. They can be reached at (619) 767-2765 or visit sddac.com.  The is located at 2481 Palomar Airport Rd. in Carlsbad.
