Meet CHS Valedictorian Emily Oetting

Emily was also the 2013 CIF female Scholar Athlete of the Year for the San Diego section.

Emily Oetting maintained a 4.79 GPA and achieved numerous accomplishments in track and cross country while at Carlsbad High School.

We asked Carlsbad High School's 2013 valedictorian a little more about herself and her plans for future. Here's what Emily had to say:

Patch: What are your plans after graduation?

I am going to be attending Cornell University as an Animal Science and Biology double major, with a minor in Spanish.  I will also be running on the Cornell Track and Cross Country teams.

What career field are you thinking about after college?

I am planning on doing something in the science field.  Right now I am leaning towards a career in veterinary surgery for small animals, and I would like to combine this with some research and application of stem cell cloning of animal organs.

What else do you want Patch readers to know?

I pride myself in being very well-rounded.  I am not the fastest or the smartest person in the world, but I’ve found I don’t need to be.  I’ve enjoyed being a “Jack of all trades,” where I’ve involved myself in everything from Speech and Debate, to Mission Trips, to 4-H Club, to Track and Field.  I focus on a wide breadth of activities, and this allows me to gather many new experiences, and learn as much as I can about the world and myself.
