Operation Appreciation, Kids' Art and Wild West Fest Reels in Weekend

You made it to the weekend, now what? Patch found your weekend events happening May 18-19.

Are you ready for the weekend? There are a ton of celebrations happening in North County. Celebrate active military members, learn about endangered species or experience the Wild West. Click on the links for more info.

ENDANGERED SPECIES DAY CELEBRATION
What’s Up: San Diego Botanic Garden will host a celebration and bring awareness to protecting endangered species.  The event will feature kids activities, tours, gardening tips and more. When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
Where: San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas.
Price: Free with admission. Prices are range from $6-$12, kids under 2 are free.

WILD WEST FEST
What’s Up: Giddy up! City of Carlsbad will host the Wild West Fest. Kids and families will experience Western music, mechanical bull, pony rides and more. When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
Where: Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, 6200 Flying L.C. Lane, Carlsbad.
Price: Free.

OPERATION APPRECIATION
What’s Up: Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will honor active military members at Camp Pendleton and nearby bases. Military members and their families can enjoy free food, games, entertainment and more.
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
Where: Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre, 200 N the Strand, Oceanside.
Price: Free.

ENCINITAS FASHION SHOW
What’s Up: Attention fashionistas, Encinitas Lifestyles Fashion Show is back for its fifth year. The fashion show will showcase clothing from local retailers, drinks, music and a runway show. Proceeds will benefit Carol’s House  and other community resources programs.
When: 6:30 to 9 p.m. on  Saturday, May 18.
Where: Encinitas Community & Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas.
Price: $25-$40.

KIDS CREATE FOR COAL
What’s Up: Carlsbad Oceanside Art League (COAL) will host the 19th annual children’s art show. The show will feature 67 art pieces created by kids in kindergarten to eighth grade. A reception and awards ceremony for the young artists will take place on Sunday to recognize their work.
When: 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.
Where: Carlsbad Oceanside Art League, 300 Carlsbad Village Drive, Suite 101, Carlsbad.
