Palomar Airport Road Down to Single Lane Most of Summer

Westbound Palomar Airport Road and northbound El Camino Real will be reduced by one lane each beginning Monday, June 3, while construction crews modify traffic signals and medians and install a new traffic signal.

These improvements are being made as part of the new Palomar Commons project on the corner of Palomar Airport Road and El Camino Real, the former Olympic Resort site. They will help ensure traffic flows smoothly and that it is easy to get in and out of the new retail center, which will include a Lowes Home Improvement store, a Chipotle Mexican Grill, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Panera Bread, Jersey Mike’s Subs, California Bank & Trust, and a new gas station and car wash, among other shops and restaurants.

The center is scheduled to open in a few months.

The lane closures will be in effect every day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the work is expected to be completed by July 21. During the construction period westbound Palomar Airport Road will be reduced by one lane between Loker Avenue West and Yarrow Drive, and northbound El Camino Real will be reduced by one lane between Camino Vida Roble and Faraday Avenue. A new traffic signal will be installed on Palomar Airport Road about 1,500 feet west of the intersection with El Camino Real and will serve as the entrance to the new Palomar Commons shopping center. To minimize the inconvenience to travelers, work hours will be limited to 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., avoiding the busiest commuting times.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and take alternate routes to minimize delays during construction.
