Lookin' for what's hot and happenin' in North County this weekend?

Fiery fun events include Christmas in July in Carlsbad or the Summer Sizzle concert in Encinitas.

TGIF JAZZ IN THE PARKS

• What's Up: The annual concert series will feature Louie Cruz Beltran and his band. Beltran is master percussionist and will play a mixture of r&b, reggae, salsa, Latin and Brazilian-style jazz.
• When: 6 p.m. on Friday, July 26. 
• Where: Poinsettia Park, 6600 Hidden Valley Rd., Carlsbad. 
• Price: Free. 

• What's Up: Friends of Cardiff and Carlsbad State Beaches (FCCSB) will host the sixth annual Christmas in July event. Activities include kids games, lifeguard demonstration, pictures and parade with Santa, prize giveaway and silent auction with more than $10,000 worth of items. The fundraiser will benefit preservation efforts of the FCCSB.
• When: Noon on Saturday, July 27. 
• Where: South Carlsbad State Beach, 7201 Carlsbad Blvd., Carlsbad.

• What's Up: The festival will highlight Japanese culture and performances. Activities include kids games, talks on Buddhism, food vendors and more. 
• When: Noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28. 
• Where:  Vista Buddhist Temple, 150 Cedar Rd., Vista.

• What's Up: Ahoy matey! Library will host Pirate Storytime and Treasure Hunt featuring crafts, treasure hunt and more. 
• When: 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27. 
• Where: Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Hwy., Oceanside.
• Price: Free. 

• What's Up: Bring your family, picnic blankets and baskets for an afternoon of music. The North Coast Symphony will host its annual outdoor concert. Proceeds will benefit the San Dieguito Academy Foundation. 
• When: 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 28. 
• Where: San Dieguito Academy, 800 Santa Fe Dr., Encinitas. 
• Price: $8-$25.
