Forecast Calls for Rain, Snow, and Possible Thunderstorms

Turbulent weather is forecast for San Diego County Friday as a storm moves from Northern California to Southern California.

A cold Pacific storm will bring rain, gusty wind and highland snowfall to San Diego Friday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

A deepening marine layer at the advance end of the unsettled system out of Northern California may begin dousing Southern California with scattered light showers late Thursday evening.

More consistent downpours will begin Friday morning, with a 80-90 percent chance of rain countywide and thunderstorms possible countywide after 11 a.m.

60-70 percent chance of rain Friday afternoon and evening countywide.

Forecasts call for one-quarter to one-half an inch of moisture for coastal areas, up to an inch for west-facing mountain slopes and less than one-tenth of an inch in desert locales, the NWS predicted.

Snow is forecast to fall around the 5,500-foot level and move as much
as 1,000 feet lower by Friday night, with drifts up to four inches deep likely, meteorologists said.

Winds will increase to as strong as 25 mph along the coast, with gusts
up to 45 mph at times in the mountains and deserts. Those conditions may make
driving hazardous in the East County highlands, particularly for people in "high profile" vehicles, according to the weather service.

Rain is also forecast Sunday.
