Updated: Barricaded Subject Leads to Carlsbad SWAT Call Out

On September 13 at 4:04 P.M., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a call from a female claiming an acquaintance of hers had asked her to call 9-1-1 for her. Police Officers responded to the victim’s residence in the 2800 block of Cazadero Drive in Carlsbad and contacted the victim outside the home. The victim related she had been battered and threatened by her 35 year old boyfriend, Corey Nicholas, who was reportedly still inside the residence.

Officers attempted to contact Nicholas inside the home and by telephone but got no response. Believing Nicholas had barricaded himself inside the house to avoid arrest, the Carlsbad Police Department SWAT team was called to the scene. While preparing to enter the home to arrest Nicholas Carlsbad Police learned he was possibly in the city of National City. The National City Police Department was contacted and asked to attempt to locate Nicholas. About 8:02 P.M. officers from the National City Police Department located Nicholas at a Walmart in National City and took him into custody. Carlsbad officers responded to National City, took custody of Nicholas and booked him into the San Diego County Jail for his threats and domestic violence.

During the incident neighboring residents were evacuated. The victim did not seek medical treatment and no other persons were injured.
