Video: Taking on the Togo's Pastrami Pounder Challenge

Carlsbad, La Jolla and Mount Helix Patch editors attempt to each eat a two-foot long, one pound Togos pastrami sandwich in 30 minutes or less.

La Jolla Patch editor Michelle Mowad's strategy was to eat the bread first.

Carlsbad Patch editor Deanne Goodman didn't have breakfast.

Mount Helix Patch editor Eric Yates said he "just didn't want to die."

Fortunately, no deaths occurred, but none of us were able to successfully conquer Pastrami Pounder Challenge. Eric got the closest.

Between Jan. 11- Feb. 21 2012 customers who “pound the Pounder” within the 30 minute time frame receive a commemorative Togo’s t-shirt.  The Pastrami Pounder is two-feet long and features over one pound of Togo’s hot pastrami.

Few have been able to successfully finish the massive sandwich within 30 minutes. Currently the record is being held by a woman who ate it all in 17 minutes!
