Update on the Japanese Tsunami Dogs and How You Can Help

The video of the tsunami-surviving dog refusing to leave its injured friend melted the hearts of many, but where are the dogs now?

The video and article, , quickly became Carlsbad Patch's most requested story for a follow up.

Carlsbad Patch has been doing research since it aired March 16 to update the story, but the reports over what happened to the dogs seem to grow hazier by the day. First, it was announced they were rescued. "Both dogs have now been rescued" wrote Kenn Sakurai on his Facebook page. Sakuai is the president of a dog and cat food firm which aids animal rescue operations. GlobalAnimal.org says he was flooded with donations from Paypal to help further rescue operations.

But here is where red flags get raised. According to GlobalAnimal.org, FujiTV who found and filmed the dogs in the Youtube video released a statement saying the dogs were rescued but their film crews never actually saw the dogs get picked up. No one, including Sakuai, seems to be able to provide photo proof that those two dogs were in fact rescued or if they are still alive.

So what can you do to help? We can use the story of those two dogs who wouldn't give up on each other, to not give up on the other animals that need help after the . We've found there are so many Paypal accounts to donate to, and while they all might be legitimate, it's hard to tell where your money is really going. The American Humane Association promises to donate funds directly to Japan relief, through it's Japan Relief Fund: Animal Emergency Services. If you'd like to donate online to this fund click here.
