WWII Vets from Carlsbad Prepare for Memorial Day Weekend Honor Flight

Honor Flight San Diego will be flying 90 WWII veterans to see the WWII Memorial for the first time on Memorial weekend, May 24-26.

There are five Carlsbad veterans going, four of whom are 90+ years old; one of them, Rip Harper who was a Marine and now does maintenance and upkeep at a local cemetery is 96-years-old! The youngest veteran from Carlsbad is 89.

The trips are made possible through generous donors like Dave Walker who lives in Carlsbad.

The veterans go for the weekend to Washington D.C at no cost to them. Honor Flight San Diego pays all costs and includes volunteer guardians who help them out. For many, this is the first chance to tell their story and hear "Thank you."
