Jewish Family Service has an upcoming event, “Psychological Trauma and Its Aftermath,” on January 30, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel at 9001 Towne Centre Drive in La Jolla-UTC. The event will feature a panel focusing on post-traumatic stress and veterans returning from combat.

An estimated 70% of adults in the United States have experienced a traumatic event at least once in their lives. Whether abuse, an unexpected death, surgery, an accident, combat, or a mass disaster, the effects of trauma can last well after the event itself. At this event, attendees will learn more about what makes an experience traumatic and therapeutic options for individuals experiencing trauma-related symptoms.

Featured panelists include:

  • Sonya B. Norman, Ph.D., Director of PTSD Consultation Program for the National Center for PTSD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at University of California, San Diego

  • Steven Thorp, Ph.D., ABPP, Program Director of the PTSD Disorders Clinical Team at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.

This event is completely free, but registration is required at www.jfssd.org/trauma or (858) 637-3231.

I'd say the recent events against which they were protesting are far more consequential than aRead More freeway traffic back-up. Just a guess.

How did they cause a backup, exactly? I'm asking because I saw them, and am wondering how theyRead More backed it up. If it's because people were slowing to read the signs, you can't really get mad at them for that.

I stopped using Internet Explorer years ago. Firefox is safer and the possibility of getting aRead More virus is much less. I have no issues with Firefox.

And if you use an IPAD early in the day as I do, the problem is that there is so much on each pageRead More that it is hard to scroll with your finger(s) because there is just so much clutter that you keep losing your story to an annoying ad.
