Over 1,500 of San Diego's homeless men, women and children will gather at the San Diego Rescue Mission for a congregate Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 2pm - 5pm. Nearly 200 volunteers will serve these individuals hot turkey dinners and offer personal necessities like t-shirts, socks, towels, shampoo, soap and lotion. These individuals and families living on the streets will also be given information on the Rescue Mission's life-changing programs. It is an opportunity for our homeless friends to come and enjoy some music and be served a sumptuous meal in a family style environment. This is an opportunity to be treated with dignity and joy for a short period at this most difficult time of the year.
The San Diego Rescue Mission's Annual Congregate Thanksgiving Meal served an estimated 1,500 hot turkey diners to San Diego's homeless last year. With an estimated 8% more homeless on the street this year, the Rescue Mission expects to serve more meals than it served in 2011.
