Fun with Wonder Kids” Sunday October 27, 2013

Event culminates FanFaire Foundation’s celebration of National National Arts Month and the second anniversary of its “KIDS Playing For KIDS” program

The Rancho Sante Fe Garden Club and FanFaire Foundation celebrate National Arts Month and the second anniversary of “KIDS Playing For KIDS” with an afternoon of “Music and Fun with Wonder Kids” on Sunday October 27, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. “Wonder Kids” refer to the team members of FanFaire Foundation’s “KIDS Playing For KIDS” program whose amazing musical talents have won for them top prizes in local, regional, and international competitions and brought them to professional venues in the US and Europe. 

The afternoon program begins at 2:00 P.M. with prelude performances collectively called “All in the Family” featuring parent and child as well as siblings playing music together. The main program presents some thirteen children who will play pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Dvorak, Lizst, Paganini, Rimsky Korsakov, Saint-Saens, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky. The young artists include cellist Paul Maxwell, pianists Michael Chen, Ursula Hardianto, Claire Lewis, Angie Gou, Tyler Kim, Adrian Liu, Anne Liu, Julia Reiners, and Clara Truong; violinists Priscilla Hardianto, and Jasmine Wang; and French horn player Christine Chen. The special appearance by bass/mandolin-playing Mr. Johnny High Hat will add an extra element of fun to the festive occasion.

“KIDS Playing For KIDS” members are now among the most sought-after young musicians in San Diego and beyond. Examples are: Adrian Liu played at Copley Symphony Hall as a soloist with the San Diego Symphony, having won its “Best and Brightest” Young Artist Competition and will give a “Young Prodigy ” solo recital in November at the Athenaeum in La Jolla; Jasmine Wang performed the complete Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto last summer at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, and spent part of the summer with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC; Ursula Hardianto made two appearances at Carnegie’s Weill Hall this year, was invited to perform twice as guest performer at TED-X San Diego this fall and at the December TED-X in Vail, Colorado; Tyler Kim performed with the Vienna International Orchestra at Palais Auersberg in Vienna last summer; Michael Chen and Julia Reiners performed at Carnegie’s Weill Hall in 2012; Anne Liu won a Special Award from the Shanghai Conservatory; Clara Truong has made many guest appearances as concert soloist in San Diego, Riverside and Los Angeles; and Paul Maxwell, a frequent guest artist at various local musical events, performed Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in 2012 with the New City Sinfonia.

“KIDS Playing for KIDS” is FanFaire Foundation’s most popular community program. Launched in October 2011, the program nurtures musically gifted children who also love science and math to help them develop as role models for their peers. It provides them with performance opportunities in professional venues, enabling them to creatively express and share their love of music with children of all ages while building their confidence as performers. They are also encouraged to pursue academic excellence and value community service. The ultimate goal is that the kids’ passion for music will spark creativity and a sense of community among other young people so they can compete effectively in our science-based society. This is possible because music enhances the skills required for learning science and math.

FanFaire Foundation is proud to be a community partner of the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club. “Music and Fun with Wonder Kids” is the partnership’s fifth musical event.
