At St. Paul's PACE, Even a Small Gift Means A Lot

At St. Paul’s PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), even
a small gift can make a huge difference in the life of a frail senior.  PACE services almost 400 of San Diego’s frailest and low income seniors, providing them with medical and social care so they are able to stay at home rather than move into a nursing home.

“Many of our seniors,” said Carol Hubbard, St. Paul’s PACE Executive Director, “do not have family living in San Diego and often do not receive a gift or acknowledgement on the holidays.

With St. Paul’s PACE in their lives they feel they have a family and a community of friends who care about them. We are struggling to get gifts together for every senior, 400 is a large number for us.

Hubbard noted that most of PACE seniors want very small things that cost less than $10 at Walmart or Target, like socks, slippers, sweaters or towels.  “It brings us great joy to see them open their gifts,” she said. Gifts can be mailed to “Marketing” or delivered to St. Paul’s PACE at 111 Elm Street, San Diego, CA 92101. Gifts can also be delivered to the Chula Vista location at 630 L Street, Chula Vista, CA 91911.

St. Paul’s Pace is a health plan for low income seniors age 55 and older who prefer not to move into a nursing home, but whose medical problems make it impossible for them to stay at home without help from doctors, nurses, social workers and other caregivers.  St. Paul’s PACE is a San Diego nonprofit launched by St. Paul’s Senior Homes & Services, which has
been providing a wide range of programs to serve the elderly in San Diego since 1960.
