Summer Grilling Recipe: Jalapeno, Lime, and Smoked Mozzarella Turkey Burger for Carlsbad Dialysis Patients

Chef Aaron McCargo Jr. has partnered with Fresenius Medical Care to create the following Jalapeno, Lime, and Smoked Mozzarella Turkey Burger recipe for dialysis patients.

For most Americans, summertime is a time for cookouts featuring delicious and decadent food. However, for the almost 400,000 Americans who are on dialysis, there are certain dietary restrictions limiting their food and fluid options, which can make it challenging to enjoy summer barbeques with friends and family.

Chef Aaron McCargo Jr., star of the Food Network’s “Big Daddy’s House,” has partnered with Fresenius Medical Care to develop some dialysis-friendly recipes for patients so they can enjoy summertime foods, including a tasty Jalapeno, Lime, and Smoked Mozzarella Turkey Burger, perfect for people with kidney failure – as well as their families and friends – to enjoy this summer.

Jalapeno, Lime, and Smoked Mozzarella Turkey Burger

Ingredients:

  • 1½ pound ground turkey
  • 1 jalapeno or 2 Tbsp finely diced jalapeno*
  • Juice of 2 limes and zest** of 1
  • 1 Tbsp black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp reduced-sodium Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ¾ cup shredded smoked mozzarella cheese
  • 6 hamburger buns

Preparation:

Preheat outdoor grill (a George Foreman® grill may also be used). In a medium size bowl, mix the first 5 ingredients plus 2 Tbsp of olive oil. Make equal size burger patties and lightly brush with remainder 2 Tbsp of oil. Cook for 5-7 minutes, flipping once, or until an internal temperature of 165° F is reached. Top each with an equal amount of cheese and melt in a toaster oven or in oven on broil. Serve on a toasted bun. (If using George Foreman® grill, once cooked, unplug the grill and add cheese to the burger. Leave the grill open and allow the cheese to slightly melt.)

California seriously needs Republicans to return and reclaim the 55 Electoral votes this stateRead More represents to the presidential elections. Three Democratic cities are bankrupt and more are threatened.

I'd say the recent events against which they were protesting are far more consequential than aRead More freeway traffic back-up. Just a guess.

How did they cause a backup, exactly? I'm asking because I saw them, and am wondering how theyRead More backed it up. If it's because people were slowing to read the signs, you can't really get mad at them for that.

I stopped using Internet Explorer years ago. Firefox is safer and the possibility of getting aRead More virus is much less. I have no issues with Firefox.

And if you use an IPAD early in the day as I do, the problem is that there is so much on each pageRead More that it is hard to scroll with your finger(s) because there is just so much clutter that you keep losing your story to an annoying ad.
