20th Annual Peace Officers Memorial Run

San Diego County’s 20th annual run honoring peace officers who have died in the line of duty will take place Saturday, May 14, 2010, at 9 a.m.  The 2.5-mile run is sponsored by the .  The run is being held in conjunction with California Peace Officers' Memorial Day and National Peace Officers’ Week.

Over 200 officers representing local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies from throughout San Diego County are expected to participate.  The run will start at , located at the corner of Carlsbad Boulevard and Cannon Road, and travel along Carlsbad Boulevard.  The participants will be running in a group as a symbol of unity and will be carrying both the American and Peace Officers' Memorial flags.

Last year, eleven officers died in the line of duty in California, and two have been killed so far this year.  Three officers have been lost in San Diego County:  on February 28, 2010, Deputy Ken Collier from San Diego Sheriff’s Department; on May 7, 2010, Officer Daniel Benavides from California Highway Patrol; and on October 28, 2010, Officer Christopher Wilson from San Diego Police Department.
