Giving in Carlsbad: Afghan Refugee and Family Need Your Help

The refugee worked with marines as a translator. His wife and 6-month-old daughter are staying with a family in Carlsbad and he is hoping for find a local job.

Marian Anthony submitting the following info to Carlsbad Patch about his friend:

My wife and I are sponsoring an Interpreter that worked for 5th Marines in Sagin Afghanistan – Helmand Province. I got to know him in June of 2011 when I was at Patrol Base Jackson. He helped translate for me when we were at Shuras (local meetings) and worked directly under the commanding officer.

Many of these guys were promised a “visa” but as the men rotated out of the country, their point of contact was lost. Much of the command has rotated into different positions at different units.

The sad part is that the US State Dept made empty promises to these guys, and many of them were refused visas for political asylum. Many of these guys were killed by Talibs or will be hunted down after the US withdrawal 2014.

He brings with him a wife and 6 month old baby girls. We also have a 6 month old and sympathize with him.  He speaks Dar, Pashto, Urdu, Tajik, and English very well.

I would like to see if the local community can help find him work and I doubt the US Sate Dept has any funds to help him get established.

Anything can help.
