Bike to Work May 17, Get Free Stuff

The following is from the City of Carlsbad:Cyclists participating in Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17, can stop at two “pit stop” locations as they pass through the City of Carlsbad from 6 to 9 a.m. One will be at the seawall at Frazee Beach at Carlsbad Boulevard and Pine Avenue and the other at Zone 5 Park on Faraday Avenue and Camino Hills Drive.

While supplies last, cyclists will receive free T-shirts, snacks, beverages and other giveaways. Bike to Work Day, organized regionally by SANDAG, promotes bicycling as a healthy, economical and environmentally friendly commute choice.

“The City of Carlsbad encourages those who live and work in and around the city to join neighbors, friends and coworkers in celebrating Bike to Work Day with us,” said Rachael Shay, special events supervisor for the city. “The many miles of bike-friendly transportation systems in our community make it easy to take in Carlsbad from a different perspective.” Bryan Jones, transportation deputy director for the City of Carlsbad, added, “The city is currently in the process of adding new bike lanes on Carlsbad Village Drive, widening bike lanes on Carlsbad Boulevard, and installing bike lanes and a trail across the Buena Vista Lagoon to continue to make Carlsbad more bike-friendly. These improvements increase transportation options and opportunities for healthy recreation as well as benefitting business and tourism in our community.”
