Article written by Carter Doan, a 5th grade Jefferson Kids for Peace student

The Kids for Peace is a non-profit organization ready to help the community. The Global Friends program helps expose kids to other cultures and celebrate diversity. The Community Builders program encourages children to contribute to their communities. Artists in Action lets kids express their ideas through art. Eco kids has kids help save the planet.

At Jefferson Elementary in Carlsbad, the Kids for Peace students are helping a school in a village in Kenya by raising money through a fundraiser. Although it only lasted a day, we collected enough money to get the kids brand new school supplies and three big chalk boards. We also found out the Kenyan students  only had one book, so we made handmade books for them. You can see a video about the kids from Kenya on YouTube.

The Kids for Peace program proves that a group of kids can make a difference in our community and in the world.

Here's the pledge we try to follow:

The Kids for Peace Pledge
I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way.
I pledge to help others as I go throughout my day.
I pledge to care for our earth with my healing heart and hands.
I pledge to respect people in each and every land.
I pledge to join together as we unite the big and small.
I pledge to do my part to create PEACE for one and all.
