Local Optimist Clubs Throw Holiday Party for Kids that Lost a Parent in Combat

The Optimist Club of Carlsbad and the Optimist Club of Vista held a Christmas Party for children who are members of the Guide-On organization. The party took place on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Optimist Club of Vista’s Clubhouse in Shadowridge.

Guide-On provides guidance and support to children who have lost a parent in combat. This is the eighth year that the Carlsbad Optimists have hosted a Christmas party for the Guide-On group, and the first year that they collaborated with the Vista Optimists.

The children and their families were treated to a delicious holiday dinner, as well as an array of desserts provided by the Carlsbad Police Explorers. The Showcats show choir from Vista High School provided entertainment for the children, their families, and the Optimists from both clubs. Santa Claus and two of his elves arrived at the party aboard the Carlsbad Firefighters’ Association’s 1947 antique fire truck, and provided the children with Christmas presents purchased by the Optimists.
