New Year’s Eve is a night to celebrate, let loose and live it up. Unfortunately, it’s also a night where poor decisions are made and transportation becomes something of which to be concerned.
Thankfully, North County Transit District (NCTD) and San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) are providing party patrons with free late-night trains and buses on New Year’s Eve, making transportation a worry-free thing.
Beginning after 6 p.m. on Dec. 31, tickets will be obsolete on BREEZE buses, SPRINTER light rail and COASTER trains. This free service has been provided by NCTD in past years and is a way to ensure safe rides home for everyone.
Not only are tickets unnecessary for these services, extra trips will also be made. COASTER will run after midnight, departing at the Santa Fe Depot at 12:45 a.m. and the SPRINTER will run an extended service between Escondido and Oceanside with hourly departures through 12:33 a.m. An extra eastbound SPRINTER will also leave OCEANSIDE at 2:03 a.m. for those late-night partiers and will allow for a connection from the last COASTER ride.
MTS is also offering up extended trolley service with convenient connections for North County residents interested in taking the COASTER to their celebration destination.
Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of these free, safe rides to avoid the repercussions of drinking and driving.
