Our San Diego Beach Cleanup

We had so much fun teaming up with the Surfrider Foundation to clean South Mission Beach!

For only two hours we walked around the beach, sidewalk, and parking lot looking for litter that may have been left behind or washed up from the ocean.  Although the beach already appeared clean, we were completely shocked to realize that our cleaning efforts combined with 257 other volunteers that joined us, resulted in 124 lbs of trash, 55 lbs of recyclables, and a 5 gallon jug halfway filled with cigarettes butts!

Not only was it a humbling experience for us, it also opened our eyes to the reality of our careless actions.  Many of us are guilty of littering at least once in our lives and it is very easy to think that one little trash won’t matter, BUT the reality is that everyone is thinking the same thing.  Next thing you know, that small piece of trash turned into 124 lbs of trash or more!

There are millions of people on this planet that have different backgrounds and life dreams, but one thing that every human has in common is our planet home: earth.  Let’s do our best to keep our planet clean so that everyone can enjoy the beach, the park, or anywhere else on planet earth.

Now that summer is ending, there may be a beach near you that could use a little TLC from all the summer beachgoers.  We dare you to take your family and friends to the beach and pick up trash for only two hours to see how much you find.  We would love to see pictures and hear how it went!
