The Wiz: A Bundle of Comedy

A comedic show produced by the Carlsbad Community Theatre.

The first weekend in August at the Truax theatre at El Camino High, the musical production of occurred providing musical and comedic entertainment for everyone.

This particular musical was produced by the Carlsbad Community Theatre with a cast of kids all the way up to adults. The show is a musical version of Wizard of Oz.

The use of props was very interesting. In order to show Dorothy getting separated from her aunt and uncle, the “tornado” (people flying around with tornado like costumes) ran around for a few minutes transforming the scene into Dorothy being in Nebraska her way to find the ‘Wiz’.

Overall the musical was entertaining, but there were technical difficulties with the audio that really took away from the performance. Hopefully that was just on the night that I went since it was opening night. Also, some of the dancing was a bit off, but again maybe that was just first night jitters.

Dorothy stood out with her powerful and beautiful voice as well as the lion who provided comedic relief throughout the whole show.

The casting director did a truly great job, even with the casting of the wonderful Toto who stayed on cue. The costumed was great, right down to the little blue bow on Toto.
