A tourist in my hometown

The last bell has rung; school is out and summer is officially in session. For most students--myself included--this means staying up late, sleeping in, and numerous trips to the beach as we try and rid ourselves of our ghostly complexions.
On my most recent trip to the beach; however, a strange thought occurred to me. There were tourists.
Everywhere.
Now this may seem obvious--I've probably witnessed and mocked the sneaker-clad-feet of thousands of tourists on Carlsbad's beaches over the course of my seventeen years--but I've never really thought of Carlsbad as a tourist destination.
Carlsbad is home. It's the place I leave to go on vacation, not the place I go on vacation to. Sure I appreciate our gorgeous weather and scenery, but it's the norm to me. I'm so acclimated to the wonders that are Carlsbad, that I failed to actually experience them.
So I tried to see things from the tourists' perspective; and I was amazed by the view.
Carlsbad, in addition to its pristine beaches and perfect weather, is home to quite a few attractions--one's that I've failed to take advantage of over all these year. When was the last time I'd been to legoland? How many times had I driven past the flower fields without giving them a second glance?
Even walking around in the village I found these great boutiques and cafes; like an archeologist excavating an old site, I was finding all sorts of hidden treasures. So instead of being bummed that I'm not jetting out of the country on vacation this summer, I'm going to be a tourist in my home town. And I'd advise you to do the same.
