Yoga Rocks the Park brings the community together

Whether you've been practicing yoga for years or you just want to work on your corpse pose, Yoga Rocks the Park is an active and fun way to meet people and spend a Sunday morning in Carlsbad.
The nationally renowned Yoga Rocks the Park program is bringing its message of wellness and community to Stagecoach Park in Carlsbad every Sunday morning through September 8th from 8:30 to 10:45 AM.
The Carlsbad location its the first YRP event in California but the program has been in existence for six years since it got its start in Denver Colorado. YRP founder, Erick Vienneau started the program with the mission to bring communities together to enjoy music and wellness and he has since spread his message to 15 cities across the nation and counting.
"Yoga Rocks the Park is not just a weekly event," Vienneau said. "It's a growing movement to bring peace, joy and celebration to communities throughout the country."
Tickets are $10 for children and adults are $12 in advance or $15 at the park. Families with multiple children pay only $7 for each child. Wellness venders offer advice before and after the sessions and give away merchandise in the weekly raffles and giveaways.
The series offers 70 minute yoga sessions and simultaneous sessions for children offered by Next Generation Yoga.
"Parents can leave their kids in a really safe environment where they can still see them but they can also enjoy their full practice at the same time," Event Director, Traci Wallace said.
All sessions are taught by top yoga instructors from the community and each session is accompanied by a musical performance from local, up-and-coming musicians. This weeks performer was Luke Williams who played songs from the album, From a Loving Heart, which he is going on tour to promote.
"We do this throughout the country but we really do focus on local musicians and bringing light to local teachers by giving them a bigger audience. It has that community feel but its also a part of this growing, nation-wide event," Wallace said.
"What's cool is that there are a lot of musicians and teachers that have gained a following through Yoga Rocks the Park  events and they are now on tour."
Yoga rocks the park is also working with local vendors, charities and non-profits to bring change to the community. Ten percent of the net proceeds from the Yoga Rocks the Park events go to The Sean O'Shea Foundation and Kids for peace. The Sean O'Shea Foundation works to empower at risk youth through yoga and nutrition. Kids for Peace is a global organization based in Carlsbad that promotes kindness in the community.
"I think the coolest thing about the event is all the people and non-profits in the community that I've gotten to know and how people have been able to network and come together in a collective effort to do good," Wallace said.
