Carlsbad Aquafarm, Sustainable Seafood

Carlsbad Aquafarm Since 1990

I have lived in Carlsbad for over 13 years and just discovered what was happening in the water at 4600 Carlsbad Blvd.  East of Carlsbad Blvd. between Cannon and Tamarack.  Since 1990 they have been growing eco-friendly mussel, oyster, clam, abalone, scallop and culinary seaweed.  Carlsbad Aquafarms' provide fresh, local and sustainable seafood products.  Sustainable seafood is seafood that is either caught or farmed in ways that consider the long-term vitality of harvested species and the well-being of the oceans.

Below are a few links to some cool sustainable seafood and ocean-environmental events coming up that they’re involved in. Plus Whole Food’s Whole Planet Foundation is putting on a fun event and fundraiser March 26 at Caffe Calabria in North Park that they're shucking oysters at. Also, included the link to the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation with events, membership drives and fundraisers coming up too and they offer a tour of Carlsbad Aquafarm to members each late summer/early fall. Carlsbad Aquafarm will definitely be in San Diego’s Oysterfest this summer and the San Diego Wine and Food Festival in November, as they have with both the last two years.
