CalEPA Warns Certain Fish Caught Off San Diego May Contain Dangerous Toxins

Shiner perch, topsmelt, barred and spotted sand bass, yellowfin croaker and two shark species caught in San Diego's bays may contain toxins, so consumption should be limited, according to a new health advisory released by CalEPA’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.

Tests have shown that those fish contain unsafe levels methylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, which are linked to cancer and other health issues, the U-T San Diego is reporting.
