La Costa Heights Students Honor Deceased Service Dog

The kids collected more than 300 pounds of food for animals in need at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

La Costa Heights Elementary School students collected more than 300 pounds of pet food for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in honor of a service dog who died of cancer five days before her third birthday.

The drive, called Fill Bree’s Bowl, was named for Bree, up until her death Dec. 4 from an aggressive cancer.

Bree helped Zander, who is 10 and has autism, cross the street safely, stay calm and make friends. Zander’s sister, Audrey, takes the pet food drive to her school, , from Mar 12 to 23.

If you would like to help, is still accepting donations at its office, 389 Requeza St. Wednesday to Monday from 11a.m. to 5 p.m.
