Biggest Back-to-School Trends from the Lancer Ladies of Carlsbad High

With the new school year just around the corner, many are probably wondering what the latest trends of fashion are at . While fashion magazines are promoting weather conscious layers and coats, the ladies of Carlsbad get to celebrate summer all year round and it is surely reflected in their clothing. At this past week’s registration, where students are reunited for the first time in months to take school pictures and compare class schedules, I got a healthy sampling of what this year has in store for the fashion scene at Carlsbad High.

I think it is safe to say that our beautiful summer weather will be carried long into the fall months of September and October, making way for a staple in every high school girl’s wardrobe ­– high waisted shorts. Coming in different patterns and styles, high waisted shorts are a more stylish alternative to the distressed “Daisy Dukes” we’ve seen in past years and can be paired with cute blouses and comfortable flip flops or boots. Carlsbad High School has also given new meaning to comfortable layers as girls often throw a pair of cotton leggings under a dress or a jean jacket over a tank top to add an extra pop to an otherwise plain look. Cropped jeans are also a must have in every Carlsbad HS closet and pair perfectly with simple tennis shoes or Toms for an effortlessly cool look. This way, students are much more comfortable in the over-air conditioned classrooms and have some extra warmth on the long trek from where they parked to classes in the early hours of the day since Carlsbad High School is once again, without a student parking lot. As for accessories, less is more among the girls at Carlsbad High School, but a dark pair of shades is always encouraged to protect from the sun or hide from that teacher who they forgot to turn their essay in on time to. While footwear mostly consists of strappy sandals or flip flops, a fall upcoming trend is the combat boot. Combat boots are perfect for cooler temperatures and create a more edgy look with jeans or a sun dress. The era of backpacks has come and disappeared completely, and cross body satchels are on almost every girl’s shoulder at Carlsbad High School. This is because these smaller bags are easier to handle and more fashionable compared to a heavy, bulky backpack. (See photos 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

Overall, the lady Lancers of Carlsbad High School don’t compromise their comfort to be fashion forward but always manage to keep the laid-back and warm vibe that Carlsbad has always exuded!
