Gerald Hardacre was returning from visiting a daughter in Boston when United Airlines Flight 175 was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center's south tower on Sept. 11, 2001.

Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind 9/11 was by U.S. Navy SEALS on Sunday and buried at sea nearly a decade after the terrorist attacks that claimed 3,000 lives.

Among those killed on 9/11 was 62-year-old Carlsbad resident Gerald F. Hardacre. He was on United Airline Flight 175 from Boston when it crashed into the World Trade Center's south tower.
