Carlsbad's Beverly Lewis Dies at the Age of 84

The wife of longtime Carlsbad Mayor and Councilman "Bud"Lewis passed away on Mother's Day.

Beverly Lewis, who went by Bev, died Sunday after battling Alzheimer's disease for seven years at the age of 84.

She and husband "Bud" Lewis made a huge impact in Carlsbad and were among the latest recipients. During that award ceremony, Lewis said his wife had been his chief support, without whom he could never have succeeded as a teacher, coach and mayor.  The couple's daughter, Paula Tremayne, said her mother had been "the rock behind my dad."  And, she added, her parents were "a team—they were each other's fans."

Mayor Matt Hall released this statement, "For a woman who gave so much to our community, Bev never sought the limelight. Instead, her contributions were quiet, unknown to all but a small circle of family and friends. They knew. They saw her be a wonderful mother to two beautiful children and later a grandmother. In the early days, they saw her get up at dawn to work at a donut shop to make ends meet when her husband was elected to the City Council and had to give up his side jobs. They saw her attend every game her husband coached, sharing in his victories and hiding the newspapers the morning after defeats.  She supported him in every way."
