Support the Family of La Costa Valley Father Of Three Killed In Bike Accident

Early Sunday, April 21, 2013, Amy Ringdahl played with her three children as her husband, Eric, set out for a bike ride with his friend. Only minutes later, Eric was struck by a vehicle on El Camino Real, north of La Costa Avenue in Carlsbad, California, and died at the scene.

Eric worked with cell-based therapies at Cytori Therapeutics, Inc.; Amy is a competitive amateur triathlete. Their three children are nine, eight and five. Eric and Amy have been positive and supportive of not just their friends, teammates and fellow coaches, but the entire community.

The Ringdahl family loves the outdoors. They could be found coaching and playing soccer and football, waterskiing at the lagoon, playing and swimming at the beach and local pool, and biking local trails any weekend throughout the year.

Just last year, the family was active in the efforts to increase road safety through the addition of a stop sign near their children’s school, El Camino Creek, as part of Carlsbad’s livable streets initiative. This initiative as well as the 2012 Encinitas initiative that included new Coast Highway shared lane markings (also known as sharrows) and new bike lanes were welcome news to the active family.
