Mr. Ledgerwoods Seed Store

I don't know if you know it but the wonderful and nostalgic Mr. Ledgerwood Seed store is still around.  Ya, really!
If you've lived in Carlsbad as long as I have (42 years) one of your favorite memories of this town is purusing the old, quaint and charming Ledgerwood Seed store across from the beach.
I had a huge vegetable and flower garden many years ago and all the seeds were bought from Mr. Ledgerwood.  He was such an interesting man and the first mayor of Carlsbad.  His house/store was like no other.  There was litterlly a warn path in the cement  from the store to his house in back.  His daughter helped him run the store and he would measure out 16 cents worth of "love in a mist" seeds for me along with several others I had to have.  I walked out with a bag of exciting seeds for often under a dollar.
Taking the $5 (senior citizens price) round trip Coaster down to Old Town my friend and I happened onto "The Urban Seed" shop in Old Town San Diego.  The lady that owns the store is so interesting, creative and fun and so is her great store.  I about cried when I turned and saw all Mr. Ledgerwoods stacks of old tin boxes with the cut out labels on them, along with his little old scale and tiny spade that she too measures your little treasures  into a lovely glycine bag.
It brought back such treasured memories.
Go on line and check it out:
