Please Explain the McRib Cult Following

McDonald’s’ McRib sandwich is back... again, but do you really think it’s that tasty?

I think the McRib is McNasty. There, I said it. Feel free to comment in protest. The sandwich comes back to every so often and people get excited about it. I needed to understand the hype so I bought one and couldn’t get myself to even finish half of it. The boneless barbecue ground pork sandwich is shaped like ribs and comes on a bun with onions and pickles.

Perhaps I’m a BBQ snob from living in states like Mississippi and Tennessee where pulled pork sandwiches are a staple. Since I can’t understand the cult following around the McRib, I’m asking you all to explain it to me.

Tell us in comments what you think about the McRib. Is it McNasty or McTasty?

Oh, Lord ... most HORRIBLE thing I've ever eaten ... or tried to. Two bites and it was in the trash. Yuck!

Can't explain it!!! My mother is a McRibber but I wouldn't touch one with a 10-foot pole. To each his own!

Rubbery, wouldn't eat it even when I ate at that place long ago.

20 years ago there was an undercover show that filmed behind the deli counter of a grocery store chain. Whenever the meat sold at the meat counter was "dated" (more like tainted) they would take it to the deli and lather it with barbecue sauce and they would sell it that way (so the taste of bad meat wouldn't be detected). I think the same theory holds true with the McRib. They are counting on people buying it and not noticing the nasty meat because it is lathered in barbecue sauce. Good barbecue sauce covers up nasty meat! Wait, Deanne, isn't the McRib an entree with Weight Watchers?
