350 People Slept in Emergency Shelters Wednesday Night

About 350 people whose North County homes were threatened by wildfires spent the night in emergency shelters, county officials announced today.

A total of 100 of the evacuees were displaced by the Poinsettia Fire in Carlsbad and 241 were evacuated in the San Marcos area, where the Cocos Fire is burning, county officials said.

Temporary shelters in Carlsbad were set up at Calavera Hills Community Center and at La Costa Canyon High School. In San Marcos, shelters were opened at Mission Hills High School and San Marcos Middle School.

Evacuation orders have been lifted in Carlsbad, but evacuation orders remain in place in San Marcos.
