Border Patrol Agents Find $10K of Hidden Cash in Car Near Carlsbad

The money was found wrapped in tin foil and hidden in the manifold of a 1998 Ford Mustang.

U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped a bulk cash smuggling attempt along Interstate 5 near Carlsbad Monday around 11:45 a.m.

The agents and a Border Patrol K-9 inspected a 1998 Ford Mustang driven by a 23-year-old male U.S. citizen.

The K-9 team discovered bundles of U.S. currency wrapped in tin foil and hidden inside the vehicle’s manifold. The bulk cash totaled $10,480 and was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

The subject and cash were turned over to agents from Homeland Security Investigations.
