Carlsbad Firefighter and his Horse Help Kids with Severe Burn Injuries

Mike VanBibber, a a veteran Fire Engineer with the , goes above and beyond the duties required by his job. For the last 19 years, he has joined many other off-duty firefighters as a volunteer for Camp Beyond The Scars.

The Burn Institute’s Camp Beyond The Scars creates an environment where children with severe burn injuries ages 5-17 get a chance to do what kids do best – have fun and make friends.

Starting July 17, VanBibber will once again, along with his horse, coordinate and lead trail rides for the 70+ children attending Camp Beyond The Scars. “While they are in the saddle, they are able to enjoy their time and not focus on anything other than the ride.”
