Woman, 23, Arrested After Hit-and-Run Crash Kills Bicyclist

Police say the driver left the scene and hid near Villa Loma apartments after allegedly crashing into a 64-year-old Vista cyclist on El Camino Real.

A 64-year-old man riding a bicycle died Wednesday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver at about 9:45 p.m. on El Camino Real north of Cassia Road, report.

Arthur John Jacobs of Vista was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

A witness who called 911 to report the crash told police he saw a vehicle hit the curb and bushes and speed away into a nearby apartment complex.

Other witnesses called police to advise that the vehicle was now parked inside the nearby apartment complex. The vehicle was unoccupied when police arrived, but they found a woman hiding in bushes nearby.

Police arrested 23-year-old Julianne Elyse Thomson on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run, and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, causing injury/death. She was taken to Vista Dentention Facility.

The Carlsbad Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating.
