Carlsbad House on Surfside Lane Catches Fire

The fire began in the garage.

A Monday garage fire was possibly caused by a car battery, according to officials.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. on the 6400 block of Surfside Lane when two adults, three cats and a dog were home.

"It started from a RC car battery," Carlsbad resident Buffy B. told Patch. "A remoted controlled car in the garage."

According to Battalion Chief Mike Calderwood, crews arrived on the scene at 7:35 p.m., had the fire under control by 7:52 and were out by 7:57 p.m. About 19 firefighters, some from Oceanside and Encinitias, were called to the scene.

At 10 p.m., Buffy told Patch she'd learn what steps needed to be taken with her insurance companies after her gargage and two vehicles including a 1977 Porsche were damaged.

No one was injured.
