Update: Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Stealing Thousands of Library Books and DVDs
The Carlsbad City Library noticed a significant amount of books and DVDs missing between March and July 2011.
Updated 9/9/11: A woman accused of stealing about 2,000 books and DVDs from three San Diego County libraries in order to re-sell them pleaded not guilty Friday to felony burglary and receiving-stolen-property charges.
Maria Nater, 44, was ordered held on $40,000 bail.
A library in Carlsbad noticed a significant book loss between March and
July and an investigation was undertaken, authorities said.

A search of Nater's home in Vista turned up thousands of library books – some ready to be shipped – on cooking, crafts and animals, estimated to be worth $5,400, said Deputy District Attorney Brooke Tafreshi.
The arrested Nater when she stopped at a library to pick up more books. If convicted she faces three years in prison.

Nater will be back in court Oct. 7 for a readiness conference and Oct. 27 for a preliminary hearing.
